The Cave of the Mounds is a National Natural Landmark and a geological wonder. Guests are encouraged to sift for gemstones and dig for fossils using the mining sluice on-site. Visitors also enjoy exploring the crystalized cave throughout the year. Guided tours of the cave are offered and a gift shop, prairie and savanna restoration areas, rock gardens, butterfly gardens and a discovery center are also located in the park. In 1911, Frank Lloyd Wright began purchasing the land where his maternal grandparents once lived. Over the following two decades, Wright managed to buy the 600 acres surrounding the estate and today it serves a historic site and museum where guided walking tours are given. Visitors enjoy exploring the historic buildings, including the Unity Chapel, which was built in 1886. Middleton Train Depot Once used to transport passengers and crops, the Middleton Train Depot is now the home of the Middleton Tourism Commission. Constructed between 1949 and 1951, the Unitarian Meeting House remains another example of Frank Lloyd Wright's design techniques. Natural looking materials of oak, limestone, copper, glass and red concrete were used in the structure, allowing it to blend in with its surroundings. The hamlet of Belmont is home to the First Capitol Historic Site of Wisconsin, where a group of legislators met in 1836 and founded territorial Wisconsin's government. The original buildings make up this historic site and relate the story of how the group met for 46 days to establish a judicial system, determine railroad routes and make Madison the state capitol. The Hanchett-Bartlett Homestead is an 1857 Victorian homestead that is located in Beloit, Wisconsin. The site features the home of James Hanchett, a pioneer contractor and builder of dams, who came to Beloit in 1844. The house has been restored to its original splendor and contains furnishings from 1850 to 1885.
