In 1911, Frank Lloyd Wright began purchasing the land where his maternal grandparents once lived. Over the following two decades, Wright managed to buy the 600 acres surrounding the estate and today it serves a historic site and museum where guided walking tours are given. Visitors enjoy exploring the historic buildings, including the Unity Chapel, which was built in 1886. The Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center houses the tour program, the Taliesin Book Store and a small cafe.
The House on the Rock is a specialty attraction that features a stunning house that was built beginning in the 1940s and is known as an architectural marvel. Overlooking the Wyoming Valley, the 14-room house is sculpted upon Deer Shelter Rock, a chimney of rocks that is 60-feet high. The attraction also offers educational exhibits on transportation, music, aviation, doll houses, circuses, Oriental art and canons. The world's largest carousel is also located at this unique attraction.
